Vehicle camp systems

Our recovery case had to clear the garage, and the water tank needed space beside the kitchen. Check the complete mounted setup before buying individual parts.

An at-home RTIC duffel joke from March 2020.

From our setup

Our March 2020 post shows a tan RTIC duffel in an at-home joke. Its model and size are unknown. Use the current Road Trip dimensions below to compare cargo space, not as measurements of our older bag.

Details that affect the fit

  • Current Road Trip Medium exterior: 22 × 9 × 14 in
  • Current Road Trip Large exterior: 28 × 12 × 17 in
  • RTIC describes the Road Trip fabric as water-resistant and abrasion-resistant, not waterproof

Consider it when: You want removable luggage for clothing rather than another permanently mounted case.

Keep in mind: Our photographed duffel is unidentified. Water-resistant fabric does not establish waterproof seams or submersion protection.

Before you choose: Measure the space left beside your fixed drawers and the opening needed to reach clothing. Keep bedding and clothing in separate kits if that makes arrival easier.

Before you buy

What size is the current WaterPORT DayTank?

The current 4-gallon model lists 25.5 × 7.5 × 11 inches and an 18 lb empty weight. Its page gives conflicting filled weights, 42 and 44 lb. Confirm the actual filled load and mount compatibility with WaterPORT; our tank model is unconfirmed.

Will a roof case clear my garage?

Measure the complete installed height: vehicle, rack, mounts and loaded case. Our long Pelican Storm iM3220 solved our earlier clearance problem, but we did not record the total height. A case’s standalone dimensions cannot settle that question for another vehicle.

Should clothing go in a duffel or a roof case?

A duffel can be lifted out when you arrive; a mounted case commits roof space and affects total vehicle height. Compare packed dimensions and access first. Our old RTIC photo does not identify a current bag or establish waterproof protection.
