Analytics
This site uses PostHog product analytics to understand how visitors use it. PostHog may set cookies or use local storage in your browser. As of our last check (September 26, 2026), it collects:
- page views, the clicks and interactions on each page (including clicks that lead nowhere), and where on a page people click;
- page loading and network timing, and error reports from the browser, to help us fix problems.
Session recordings are turned off, both in our PostHog project settings and in the site's analytics code, so visits are not recorded or replayed.
PostHog receives your IP address to estimate your location, such as country and city. This site does not identify visitors or give PostHog your name or email. Analytics run only on the live site, not on previews or local copies.
When you follow an affiliate link, we record the page, product, merchant and link placement to understand which recommendations readers open. Our custom click event does not include the destination URL, link text or page query parameters. A click does not tell us whether you bought anything.
Browsers explicitly marked for our testing are excluded from analytics. A browser-local exclusion flag remains until it is removed on that device. It stores a yes-or-no choice, not your identity.
Catalog filters and packing-list selections
The gear catalog filters products on this device. The filter code does not send or store your search text, and its controls are excluded from analytics autocapture.
The packing checklist saves your Packed, Skip and Buy choices in this browser’s local storage so they remain after a reload. The checklist code does not upload that saved list or require an account. Other browsers and devices have separate lists.
Clear list removes the saved selections; Undo clear is available until you make another change or leave the page. If browser storage is unavailable, the checklist still works for that visit. General analytics described above may still record interactions with the page.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps its own request logs as part of serving any website. We do not control the content of Vercel's hosting logs beyond what Vercel's own documentation describes.
Fonts
Page text uses Literata and Source Sans 3, obtained from Google Fonts and hosted with this site under their open font licenses. Your browser downloads them from Camp Field Notes, without a request to Google's font servers.
Affiliate links
Our Sitpack, NITECORE Store, EcoFlow US and BLUETTI US affiliate links go through Awin. GoSun links currently go directly to the manufacturer and earn us no commission. Our Amazon affiliate links go directly to Amazon.com. After you follow one of these links, Awin and the retailer, or Amazon, may set attribution cookies to record that the visit came from us. Their privacy policies apply to that. The site does not add an Amazon script or set Amazon cookies itself.
What we do not have
This site currently has no sign-up forms, no user accounts, no email collection and no advertising.
