How we label the gear we write about

Our buying guides use four labels so it is clear how we know about a product:

  • In our photo archive: the item or its brand appears in our own trip photos, with a link to the specific field note.
  • Current-model reference, our model unconfirmed: a current product is included as a size or feature comparison for older gear in our photo archive, whose exact model we have not confirmed.
  • Product comparison: a product we have not owned or tested. The page says this explicitly next to it.
  • Another option: a product we haven't used, shown next to our own gear for comparison. The card says so, and identifies whether its link is an affiliate or ordinary manufacturer link.

If that changes

If we add more affiliate links or paid placements, we will label them beside the recommendation they apply to and update this page.
