A kitchen-fit question

Cook Partner or Everest 2X: what space do you need?

A stove needs room for the pans, the gas connection and the person cooking. Compare storage and working space separately before using burner ratings to choose.

The short answer

Keep the current 22-inch Cook Partner in the comparison if its footprint and burner spacing suit a planned vehicle kitchen. Consider the Everest 2X MSHPX for a separate two-burner setup. We cannot promise either fits an old drawer, or choose a cooking-performance winner: our historical stove size is unconfirmed and we have not cooked on the Everest.

Compare the same job, not different measurements

Exact current reference
Cook Partner: 22-inch two-burner model, with connection available on either end. Everest 2X: Camp Chef model MSHPX. Current retail references are separate from our older stove.
Listed package footprint
Cook Partner: maker lists 12 × 22 × 3.5 in and 17 lb. Everest: maker lists width 24 in, depth 13 in, height 6 in and weight 12 lb. The pages do not explicitly label these as complete closed versus deployed measurements. Verify the actual closed package and projections before checking a drawer or carry bin.
Cooking space
Cook Partner: 12-inch burner spacing intended to accommodate 10-inch pans, per Partner Steel. Everest: 215 sq in listed cooking area and two burners rated at 20,000 BTU each, per Camp Chef. Burner spacing and total cooking area are different measures. They do not establish that the same pair of pans fits.
Deployed clearance
Neither cited product page gives a complete deployed envelope or all operating clearances for this comparison. Allow for the raised lid or windscreen, controls, pans, hose routing and the manufacturer’s required separation from surrounding materials. A storage footprint is not safe cooking clearance.
Accessories and fuel
Partner Steel says the windscreen is standard on the 22-inch stove; carry bag, griddle and stand are separately described. Check the selected connection side. Confirm the Everest’s chosen package, regulator and fuel supply. Product photographs do not prove everything pictured comes in the order.

Will either stove fit a drawer kitchen?

Measure your own drawer’s usable inside space, opening and closed latch position. Then check the stove’s verified closed dimensions, including any protruding fittings and the way the hose will be stored. Our former 4Runner has been sold, and we have no recorded drawer measurements to turn into a replacement-fit claim.

Check the cooking arrangement separately. With a mock layout, put your pans where they would sit, allow for handles and the open windscreen, and check access to the fridge, slide and utensils. Follow the current operating instructions for the exact stove. A drawer that stores it successfully may still be an unsuitable place to operate it.

Our kitchen worked well, but we modified its latches afterwards. That describes our own system, not the compatibility of a current stove with another vehicle. Read the drawer-kitchen story for what the archive actually establishes.

What changes when the stove travels separately?

A portable setup lets you choose a suitable cooking surface at camp, but the table, fuel supply and cookware still need room in the vehicle. Check stability, permitted use and current campsite fire restrictions. Use propane stoves outdoors according to their instructions; do not turn a cargo fit check into permission to cook in the vehicle or tent.

Put the pans side by side before choosing. Higher burner output does not establish better simmering, fuel use or faster meals in your conditions. We have no side-by-side cooking test.
